Denison Country Club is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Denison, Texas.
The club started as a gun and fishing club in 1895. In 1922, under the direction of W.B.Munson Jr., a nine-hole golf course was built. The course was expanded to 18 holes in the 1940's.
This course is lined with mature trees, so its fairways are typically narrow. The extremely small greens, along with the water hazards coming into play on several holes, add to the difficulty of this course. The 6,149-yard golf course is naturally incorporated into the mature and beautiful rolling wooded terrain.
The club has a bar & grill, swimming pool, lighted tennis court, and a 25-acre lake with some of the best Large Mouth Bass, & Crappie fishing in the area.
Blue tees: par-71, 6,149 yards, 69.0 / 113
White tees: par-71, 5,991 yards, 68.3 / 112
Red tees: par-71, 4,958 yards, 66.9 / 110
The course closed in January, 2020.
Owner Ben Madill said he saw the writing on the walls several months ago about the possibility of closing Denison (Texas) Country Club and felt ill when he knew it was time to close for good, KXII reported.
“Sick. I dropped a lot of money out here. Over $7 million out here,” said Madill.
Madill told KXII he bought the club’s land seven years ago, when the 214- acre property was under $1 million.
“I’ve remodeled the whole building, built workshops down there, bass houses, pools, tennis courts, pickleball courts, and basically reworked all the watering systems on the fairways,” said Madill.
Even though he spent millions of dollars on the club over the years, at the end of the day, the club didn’t get enough business, KXII reported.
